Letter 59:: 2/18/2014
Well hi, so
yes yesterday was Presidents day and today is transfers conference. So I get to
write you. Luckily a big storm didn't hit today so the library has been open.
This winter has been pretty harsh.. and I get to walk in it everyday. It is
actually really fun except for when It is cold. but I am usually able to where
enough clothes to be warm and we just have to visit lots of people so we can be
indoors :) but hey I think that it is supposed to warm up this week!
Oh
boy its a boy!! I knew it ;) that is awesome. Felizidades! so
when are the due dates for the new children in the family? I forgot.. I am
sorry. is it in the summer? That is pretty great news :) the second best news
of the day is that I am NOT getting transferred!!! I am soo happy because
I absolutely love Elizabeth and the people here. I was so nervous that I would
be changed but all went well and me quedo aqui. I wish you all could see
Elizabeth NJ, it is just a place that is one of a kind, I have never met so
many different people in my life and I love them. I especially am thankful for
the people we are working with and the trust and friendship that we have with
them. Nora, Daniel, Angel, Marissa Lenzay and Naisha. and we are on a hunt to
find more of those who are prepared. Elder Waite and I are staying together and
we are excited and ready to work miracles in Elizabeth and put our trust in
God.
So yes Nora
was married and then baptized!! It was a great experience. There was a sweet
spirit there the entire night and it was just a great experience. They are so
happy with the change the Gospel has made in their life and they are determined
to Endure to the end. We are still working with Daniel and he is getting there,
he just wont come to church so we are doing all we can to meet with him more
and help him be strengthened through the Book of Mormon so that he with
increase his faith and to church and be baptized. So that is our plan.
As for
Marissa, Lenzay, Naisha and the gang. They are getting there, Miracles are
happening in their lives. The twins, Lenzay and Naisha are preparing to be
baptized this week and are excited to do so. Marissa on the other hand said no
to be baptized this week. She wants to be baptized but she still has some
concerns holding her back. Last night we had a important lesson with her and
learned some more doubts, the answer was family prayer. Also this week we are
going to focus more on the Book of Mormon and help here strengthen her faith in
Jesus Christ and resolve concerns. I studied a lot about that this morning. One
of the best quotes in Preach My Gospel says "The Book of Mormon combined
with the spirit is your most powerful tool in conversion" We strongly
believe that miracles will happen in her and all of our investigators lives as
they read the Book of Mormon. That is the same with all of us, we want to be
converted to the Gospel. Read the Book of Mormon. It is the best book ever!
President issued another challenge for us to read it in 90 days and man I love
it. Even when I am reading about wars and things that don't seem to be
super spiritual I can feel the power of the Book of Mormon and I know it is the
words of Christ.
Well that
is the summary of the week I will let you all go
Love Elder
Boyer
p.s Oh that
makes me sad that all your letters have been sent back to you.. The address is
right except the zip code. So this is the address
614 S.
Broad St. #203
Elizabeth,
NJ 07202
Thanks,
sorry about that. Or you can send it to the office whatever you feel
Letter 58:: 2/10/2014
Woohooo. I
knew that it would be a girl ;) that is pretty awesome. Congrats Adan y
Eva, I mean Adam and Vanessa. That really makes me happy. I like that name a
lot too. So are Aaron and Marissa going to find out? I think they will end
up having twins again. That is my guess and they will both be girls. .
Well yes
you are right on. It has been snowing like crazy over here. It just wont stop
sometimes and it is really cold, Especially walking area. I cant feel my face
and hands some days, but hey they haven't fallen off yet so there isn't much to
worry about. Last Monday there was a big storm and I just got the email off
before they closed the library down and then it snowed again.. later in the
week and then it was supposed to snow a ton yesterday so we thought they might
close the library down today. but it hardly snowed so that was good :) But we
shoveled the nearby Pizza guys driveway and he made us some tasty pizza and he
said he was interested in learning more. so the English Elders are going over
tomorrow. I think it is funny how missionaries seem to make good friends with
all the Pizza Guys that are nearby to our house, Pretty soon everyone that
makes Pizza in Jersey will be a member!
Other than
that the week went pretty good. A little bit of a rougher week as far as
numbers are concerned but it was a successful week. We are finishing up all
preparations for Nora's baptism and all is going well. Last night we actually
finished up the program for her wedding and her baptism. It was funny because
she was asking us questions about what to do in the program for the wedding. We
aren't too experienced in that. One of the only things I could look back on was
the wedding of Grandma and Rex. but we figured it out. It should be a good
day. It is on Valentines day and she will be getting married and then baptized.
Baptized by her new husband too, he just got the priesthood yesterday. And she
has her family coming from Peru and they are all unfamiliar with the church. So
this will be a great introduction. I was also looking back on her teaching
record last night and it is amazing to see her conversion, She has been taught
for a year and a half and now is fully committed to her baptism. I haven't been
here nearly that long but It was great to read about and hear from her how
living the Gospel has changed her life greatly.
As for
Daniel, he is awesome.. but he wasn't at church yesterday.. so we still have
some work with him to make sure he can be prepared for baptism. but he will get
there
Marissa
continues to progress well. We are really working to help her progress to the
23 of Febuary and she is making it there. God is making Miracles happen.
Again this week as we visited her she broke down and told us her
fears and also how much she loves her children and wants to be with them
forever. At first I honestly had no idea what to say. So I said a silent
prayer and I felt we just needed to listen and then we would be able to
testify and comfort her when the time was right. That time came and we
taught to have faith in Jesus Christ and how living the Gospel is the way she
will have access to the Atonement. It was a sacred experience. As you have
seen, She really has progressed a lot from when we first met her and her
family and it is amazing to see how the Gospel has changed and blessed her
life and will continue to do so. I have a broader vision now of the
changes the Gospel can make to someone as we talk to others on the street
because I have seen it first hand. It is amazing, and I cherish the opportunity
to be a part of it. I pray and please pray as well that she will continue
to make the changes necessary in her life for salvation.
As for new
investigators.. that is where we struggle. we really need to find some and I
know there are some here. There are people everwhere, we are just going to
spend more time contacting them and finding the ones who are prepared.
So this is
the last week of the transfer and I just love it here so much. I am really
hoping that I will stay here but I don't know. I will go where the Lord needs
me no doubt, right now I just hope that that place is here in Elizabeth NJ.
Well have a
good week!
Love Elder
Boyer
Ps. So that
is really weird that you haven't got the letter. I am positive that I sent it,
so it must have gotten lost in the mail. I know that the Doctors office got a
copy of it. I can talk to sister Gilbert today and see if there is away the
Doctors office can fax that copy to the number that you sent.
Ok love you
bye
Letter 57:: 2/3/2014
Well hi
there! It sounds like there are a lot of things happening around there in the
good old Utah and with the family. I loved hearing about how everything is
going with the family and it was good to hear. Yup the super bowl was just down
the street, actually probably like 30 minutes away, the stadium is actually
pretty close to my first area in Passaic. It is actually in the Passaic sisters
area and we were thinking they could probably get a lot of contacts just by
standing outside the stadium, that would be pretty awesome if they did it on a
soap box too :) I guess there were a lot of people here in New Jersey Pretty
sweet, but we didn't here a lot about the game especially in the Spanish program..
I don't even know if anyone watched it.
Well that
is exciting news that they are going to find out tomorrow my guess is that it
will be a girl :) and maybe a boy too, maybe twins. one of those. Wait Aaron
and Marissa might not know soon, are they waiting to see what it is? ok anyways
and they are moving to Lehi! whoa but that sounds pretty good and all is well.
I hope and pray all goes well for Dad and his Jobs too, that is pretty awesome
you could apply for those. The Lord will lead you to the right one if you trust
in him :)
So I guess
I can start off with a little about my comp since you asked me about him. He is
awesome and we get along great. He was actually my District leader when I was
in Somerset. He is doing better as well with his sickness, he knows the
scriptures well and is very good at knowing what to teach in order to teach to
conversion and not just teach. I am learning a lot from him and his advice.
So
investigators are doing well. Daniel came to church yesterday!! I don't know if
you remember him but he is the dry Mormon, who is awesome but he has not been
to church since he moved here from the D.R. and he wants to be baptized. well
he came to church yesterday and he know has a sweet Dominican friend at church
so that will be good for him.
All
continues to go well for Nora and her marriage and baptism. She actually wants
to get married and baptized on the same day. She is getting married by the
bishop. We will see what happens
Marissa and
the twins are doing well. Like I said there baptism was scheduled for yesterday
but it didn't happen. They still need to learn some of the commandments. This
last week was really good for Marissa and her conversion. We had a lot of
members visit her with us and she is making good friends with the members. Also
she is understanding more about the Savior and his Atonement. She said she
definitely wants to be baptized but she is waiting for a confirmation to
tell her to do so and then she will do it. We have planned to teach the Holy
Ghost and help her understand what she can do to show her faith so the
confirmation will come.
Like I said
last week, I was feeling a little stressed out. This week we had interviews
with President and Sister Jeppson and afterwards I realized the simple things I
could do better that would lessen my stress. It was reading the Book of Mormon,
and making my prayers more meaningful. basically giving myself time to ponder,
think pray and receive packets of revelation. So I started doing that and I
feel a lot better. I am So happy and I love it out here. In our interviews with
President he told me something that is a little scary to think about. That is
that he said I am entering the 4th quarter of my mission and he wanted me
to think of a vision of the missionary I am going to be this 4th quarter. I
have been thinking a lot about that and after doing so I have decided that
my vision is to be strong, faithful , confident, and
leader among my peers in order to be the instrument in Gods hands that I
have promised to be.
That is my
vision and I know it is possible.
Well I
don't have a lot more. I hope you have a great week out there and don't have
too much fun :) I love you all!
Love Elder
Boyer
p.s. I just
sent the paper in the mail but I wasn't able to send it off until like Friday
or Saturday of last week so it might not have arrived yet.
Letter 56:: 1/27/2014
I know that
you all missed me very much but don't worry I am still here. Lets just say
these past few weeks have been a little bit crazy.. but good nonetheless. I am
sorry for not emailing you last week but yes.. you got it exactly right.
we couldn't email on Martin Luther King day and then a nice big snow storm
hit.. The worst part about it was that we walked to the library and it was
freezing outside and when we got there we found out that it was closed.. Plus
Elder Waite has been really sick and so it was hard for him to even leave the
house. We went to the church and thawed out for a little then we went again the
next day because we called and it said they were open, and when we got there
they were closed... it was a little frustrating but hey, we contacted some
people and they got to hear the Gospel. But like I said this last week has been
hard. Elder Waite doesn't feel good enough someday to even leave the house and
when we do we haven't been able to see a lot of people. Plus it has been
stressful because Marissa and her kids baptism is coming up and we want to make
sure that they are ready. The truth is I let myself stress a little too much
about that. So yes.
The good
news though is that We saw a Doctor this morning and he is feeling better, I am
allowing myself to calm down and trust in the Lord that all will work out for
Marissas baptism this week and she will be ready. Oh also when I went to the
Doctors office I got the paper for the drivers license signed by the Doctor and
will be sending that to you today :)
That is
also the good news. The baptism for Marissa, Lenzay, and Naisha. We have work
to do but they are great and their heart changes everyday. Please keep this
whole situation in your prayers. That it will work out :) We also just found
out that the twins might move to Argentina to live with Marissas sister. They
used to live in Buenos Aires. Cool huh? but they wont be able to be baptized If
they move.. at least here in the U.S so we are hoping that they stay and that
way they will be together as a family too :) but whatever happens is the lords
plan. That I do know. They are doing great though and Marissa knows these
things are true and wants to be baptized she just is afraid sometimes so our
goal is to be positive and help her to have that Faith and hope that all will
work out and it will. I need that faith and hope as well.
Daniel on
the other hand still wasn't able to come to church. We aren't really sure what
his hold up is but we will keep working with him. We call him a dry Mormon -
less active. because he basically is a member except he hasn't been to church
in a long time.
Nora is
doing awesome! we met with her last night and she is ready for baptism and to
get married. Her family is already here from Peru and last night she asked us
if she could be baptized on the same day that she gets married. So that might
be what happens, that is Febuary 14. Valentines day :) also they gave us really
cool hats from Peru last night and some tasty food. They are awesome and we
were so grateful. Also the contacting is going well. I have never talked to so
many people in my whole life. The other day we contacted 27 people it was fun.
It was freezing outside and all our appointments fell through so we literally
talked to every person that we saw on the street. We had to do some fancy
maneuvers to catch some people and some still got away ;) I love
talking to people though, it isn't as hard as it seems and some stories are
amazing. It is one of the best parts of being a missionary and you just feel
good after trying to share the Gospel with everyone.
Well other
than that I don't know. Thank you soooooo much for the package and everything
you got me. I loved it all so much. The music is great and the snacks. Some
Elders told the bishop it was my birthday when we were at church, so I was
asked to give a talk with about 10 minute notice. That was fun.... Also
oh and for the Jesus The Christ book, I was wondering if it could be a
leather bound one. I have the other books so I don't need them all. Don't worry
about buying one though.
Well I
guess it is time to go now. I know that this is the Church of Jesus Christ and
we are each a part of it. I love that fact, Christ is the head of the Church
and because of that we each represent him. and are called to serve others and
do as Christ would at all times, things and places.
I read this
the other day and I really like it as we are striving to help others make this
covenant.
Mosiah
5:88
And under
this head ye are made afree, and there is bno other head whereby ye can be made
free. There is no other cname given whereby salvation cometh;
therefore, I would that ye should dtake upon you the name of Christ, all
you that have entered into the covenant with God that ye should be obedient
unto the end of your lives.
Well I hope
that you have a great week!

I love you all
Letter 55:: 1/13/2014
Well hello,
I am really happy right now. I hope you are too. I am glad to hear that you had
a great week back in good old Utah. But I am sorry to hear about Dads talk, but
someone else will need to hear your words another time :) So wait did you watch
the Work of Salvation in Sacrament meeting or just on your own time because
that would be pretty sweet if you did. It really is so powerful. The past few
weeks we have had some great meetings here in Elizabeth. Last Sunday Elder
Olsen from the Seventy came along with Pres. Jeppson, and the Stake President
to do a training on Ward Council to the ward council. It was awesome, I learned
so much about how we can all work together to work miracles. This week again we
had another meeting with the stake presidency and stake and ward leaders of all
auxilarrries. It was so good and the end we just split off with the ward
mission leader, the bishop and the member of the stake presidency and talked about
how we can work better together. Stake presidency member said when he was a
branch pres. for his branch in Neward of about 30 he called all of them
as ward missionaries and they had double calling. Newark has grown greatly. The
work of Salvation is exciting I could probably go on and on :) so yes good
stuff.
This week
was pretty good, we had zone meeting and two other things that we are focussing
on is contacting and memorizing scriptures. Our goal is to contact atleast 10
people everyday. I love it. Contacting is always a little uncomfortable
but like I said it grows on you. I love talking to people and listening to
there stories and here in Elizabeth New Jersey there are all sorts of different
people. We have met people this week that have shared expereinces in their life
that were no doubt Miracles. In Preach My Gospel it says, that opening your
mouth is an act of Faith and faith invites Miracles. Well that is true. It
feels so good to know that we are sharing this message with everyone we can. Our
investigators are doing well too. They are just having a little bit of a hard
time coming to church. Well Daniel and Marissa are. For some reason we can
never get there whole family to come together. Either Marissa will come and
here the twins wont or one of the twins will come and Marissa wont. THat is
what happened this week. But they are all preparing and excited to be baptized.
Last night we were talking about families with them and the blessing that
come from having a family sealed together. I was so happy because I was able to
take out my picture of you all my family and testify of the love and unity that
comes from being sealed together as a family and how the Gospel blesses our
family. I never realized how much of a blessing it is for us to be sealed until
I realized last night and saw the struggles that come to families not sealed. I
am so grateful to be apart of an Eternal family :) and to help otheres have
one.
Well that
is pretty much the week, just some good work going on. and well there is nothing
else that I can think of that I need maybe some pancake mix..
I hope you
all have a great week! love you
Elder Boyer
p.s. Oh and
Adam I havent forgotten about the purification talk. I will try and copy it
today so that I can send it off to you this week.
Letter 54:: 12/30/2013
Well that
was pretty cool to see those pictures you sent me of Robs homecoming. It was
great to see my friends and they look great. Super weird that Rob is home
though..
Anyways yes
it was so great to talk to you on Christmas. I loved hearing all of your voices
and getting the low down on life. I am glad you had a good Christmas!
wherever you were. half of us were here in New Jersey. That is funny that they
found that picture cleaning the church.. I left it there to see if they would
:) oh and we had a super close run in like aaron said, he saw the car I was in.
I was on exchange with the mapelwood elders and they said we had to go pick the
other elders up. on the way he said we were going to the Nelsons house.. I did
my best to try and make it not happen but we ended up going and I decided to
duck..and hide. So I never saw anyone, but they told me aaron was on the
porch.. haha.
Like I said
it was great to have Christmas and have a lot of amazing things happen out here
and to be able to here from the family a lot. Thank you for all the gifts and
notes and cards. I am very grateful for it! I am ready again to focus and
dedicate myself completely to this work..It is sad to think I really dont have
a ton of time left, so I am going to make sure I give everything to the Lord
this year and from what I have experienced so far that is when I will be the
happiest :)
Things are
going really well out here. We have some solid investigators. Nora and Daniel,
who are preparing and are very close to baptism.. all they need to do is get
married ( not to eachother but to there pareja) but they both have a
date set to get married and then baptized and are almost there :) so
good news there. Also Marissa is doing so good. It has been so great to see the
change in her and how the Gospel is bringing more happiness to her life she
really wants to prepare for baptism and she has a date now for Febuary
2.! :) Our appointment yesterday was good but it was a little scary
too because she had just woken up and her kids had pretty much destroyed the
house while she was sleeping so she wasnt in a very good mood.. so we decided
just to teach her daughter Nayisha who is 10 and about 10 minutes later she
came out and we had a lesson, I thought of the scripture in mosiah, "to
mourn with those that mourn and comfort those that stand in need of
comfort" she opened up to us and told us her struggles in life and how we
literally came to her at a time when she needs us, she feels that a hole in her
as been filled and we testified that there are even more blessing awaiting her.
That is pretty much what happened in every lesson this week. It is also the
first time an investigator has wanted us to come over every day and teach. It
strenghtens her.
Oh also
this week I had my first opportunity to give a baptismal interview. It was for
the sisters investigator, Her name is Catalina. Her Situation as well has been
a great Miracle. She has had the baptismal date set for the 29 for awhile but
there were many obstacles. We all prayed and fasted for her that all would work
out. Then the sisters called me to give a interview. I agreed and was very
nervous as well because I wanted to make sure this was a spiritual experience
as well as be able to Judge correctly and see if she was ready for baptism. I
prayed a lot. her situation was difficult as well but the time for the
interview came and it went really well. The conversations went well, I had no
problem with the language the spirit was there and I knew she was ready to be
baptized. So yesterday she was baptized!
that is
Just a little bit about what is going on out here. More than anything I am just
grateful to be a missionary and I appreciate more and more each day. It is hard
but I am grateful to be a representative of Jesus Christ. I love it. I know the
Savior lives and loves us. . I love the Book of Mormon and the special peace it
brings to my life especially when I am stressed and anxious and feel inadequate.I
love you and know to we can each recieve Eternal life. Keep going strong it is
worth it. Love you
Elder Boyer
P.s Happy

Letter 53:: 12/9/2013
Haha well
hello this week was just a great week. I loved it. I will apoligize in advance
because this letter might be jumbled and . We are doing a christmas fireside
Next week for all of the New Jersey Stakes in spanish. and we are practicing
today and we are leaving in like 20 minutes to head to the practice.. I am
super excited though. It is one of the best things of the whole year to do the
fireside and to be able to see all the people that we have taught in our old
areas and the missionaries we havent seen for awhile.. also today is like a
half p day. because the rest of it will be on Friday and we are going to
the Temple again! yes I am sooo excited. We are actually going in the night
this time so it will be interesting to see new york at night during christmas.
But I really am most excited to go to the Temple I love it there so much and
not being able to go as much helps you appreciate it. I cant wait to feel the
powerful and peaceful spirit there :)
But yes I
ran into Mary Lou and Jack this weekend it was pretty fun. I am not going to
lie Jacks face was super funny as I shook his hand. I walked up and said hello
to him with all the missionaries and then he did a double take and realized it
was me. I was on an exchange with another Elder and it was an eventful one. We
walked in to the chapel to teach a member only to find out we walked into her
wedding ceremony, Then we went to the Christmas party and then Church on
Sunday. They have a great ward, I loved getting to know the people and the
different cultures. That was the first time I have been to an English speaking
ward on my mission and I was expecting it to be like Church at home.. but it
was different. There are so many people from different places in Africa. I
loved it. I loved working with Elder Hunt as well who is a great missionary.
Other than
that the area is going well.I am growing to love it more and more each day. We
have some pretty solid investigators. Two who are pretty much members but they
just need to get married to their spouse before they can be baptized.
That will hopefully come soon :) Also Marisa is doing well, she came to church
yesterday and we have another Baptismal date with a girl named Lissy who I
actually have never met.. but apparently she is super prepared and awesome. so
I am excited to meet her.
I love this
Christmas season so much, people are so receptive and happy to hear about Jesus
Christ. We have been passing out "Joy to the World" dvd pass a long
cards like crazy and truly trying to help others remember Jesus Christ this
year and to feel his spirit. I feel very privledged to be able to testify of
Christ.
I dont know
if you got to see the Devotional last night. It was great. I loved it. I felt
so strongly the spirit of Christ touch my heart. I am Thankful for what Christ
has done for us and I know that he is our Savior. That he bled and died for us.
He lives and this is his Gospel. God has given us such a great gift. I love you
all. Have a great week!!
Feliz

Letter 52:: 12/2/2013
So that is
the news I have been called to serve in Elizabeth Port, and I am pretty
excited. It is a pretty cool and interesting place here and the people I have
met are great. I will tell you about them in a little bit.. But yes I am not
going to lie it was a pretty hard transition at first, harder than I expected
and it still is a little hard. I found myself being homesick or areasick for
Somerset at the beginning of the week. Plus it was a new experience for me.
Last time I was transferred We were both new to the area so it was hard but I
felt comfortable. Coming here my companion has been here for about 5 months and
his spanish is really good. I felt like I was just starting my mission again
and I didnt know what to do or how to be a missionary and I realized how much I
need to improve my spanish..It was a little discouraging. But I am feeling
more comfortable now after a lot of Prayer and receieving strength from the
Lord. I read this scripture today and I loved it. I realized That I need to put
more trust in the Lord and use his strength to be confident preach the Gospel
and that Faith comes from actively doing something and not sitting and waiting
for blessings and being discoraged.
10 Therefore we did pour out
our souls in prayer to God, that he would strengthen us and deliver us out of
the hands of our enemies, yea, and also give us strength that we might retain
our cities, and our lands, and our possessions, for the support of our people.
11 Yea, and it came to pass that the Lord our God did visit us with assurances that he would deliver us; yea, insomuch that he did speak peace to our souls, and did grant unto us great faith, and did cause us that we should hope for our adeliverance in him. Alma 58: 10 - 11
I loved it and I felt so much peace as I read it. I was also given the opportunity to serve as a District Leader again. I am very excited and I already love my district so much. My goal is to serve and bless them to the very best way. It is a great group. The Sisters are amazing missionaries and I am pretty positive that they should be leading us Anyways we are going to do the work of the Lord

along well and are both willing to work hard and be the best missionaries we
can be. So that is good :)
The new area is also great! There are so many houses and they are all like 4 feet away from the next one. Everywhere. Pretty much is just concrete and houses haha and a lot of hispanic people so we dont need to worry about teaching any English people :) Also the Newark airport is actually in our area so we just see airplanes fly over us and it is really loud but I like it. The people here are obviously the best part. I havent met a lot yet but I love the ones that I have. There is quite a bit of work here and the area is little more established then Somerset was.The ward here is pretty great. it is interesting though because it is a Spanish ward and then an English Branch is there as well and they are together in all the classes but they have seperate Sacrament meetings. There is a translator in every class translating the teaching into English for the English ones :) Oh another fun fact. I am super close to Jack and Mari Lou. In fact we have our District meetings in the Maplewood Chapel. It was funny because I was there and I was looking at the missionaries in the ward and then I saw a plaque of Analese and then another one for her brother. I wanted to take a picture but my camera died..I like how There family pretty much consists of the missionaries in that ward :) The missionaries in their ward. Elder Clow and Hunt are actually in our District. Elder Mclain is also a District leader and he told me that they were in his area. It is a small world after all ;)

Well to finish off I just want to let you know about the invesigators that we have. One is named Daniel and well he is from the DR, his girlfriend is still there and he is here with his 3 kids. They have know the Church for awhile and both want to be baptized they just need to be married. He is going to the DR soon to get married and baptized and then come back here with her. He is a super cool and good man. We are also teaching twins named lensi and Nayisha. They are 10 years old and from Peru who really want to be baptized. I actually havent met them yet But I have met the Mother who is named Marisa and she is agreat. Very humble and in tune with the spirit. We taught her last night and it was a experience that I wont forget. Just like the scipture you sent it was A tender mercy from the Lord. As we were teaching her the words we said spoke peace to her heart and she wants to have more. She pointed it out to us and why she did. It wasnt only the words we said but who we are. I am hopeful and excited for her progression. We also have great Recent Converts who are working toward going to the Temple named Silvas. They were baptized a few months ago.
Well That is the update for the week. I know it is kind of a lot. I love you all! sounds like you had a great thanksgiving. I did too we had some good peruvian food and even American food :)
Love you Elder Tanner Boyer
Letter 51:: 11/25/2013
Well the
big news of the day is that I am being transferred!! :) :( :/ :? Haha yes
that is the news. Tomorrow is transfer conference and so I will find out where
I am going. Who knows. I am pretty excited but at the same time sad because I
will be leaving Somerset and Elder Perez. I have loved this area so much
because I have grown a lot here and I love the people here so much. Also this
past week was amazing we found 6 new investigators. Two families. We found them
through a street contact and they had no problem with us coming over. So we
went over and they have loved what we taught them and are excited to go to
church next week. :) Last night we actually found out that one of the ladies
named Claudia was baptized in Honduras. but left the church soon after. Now she
is interested again. Tell me that was chance.. It wasn't :) Also Vladimir
is progressing really well. Last night we had a lesson on prophets and Apostles
and he told us how he knows that this is the true church of Jesus Christ. He
still wants to wait though on his baptism, he will get there plus he told us he
wants to go on a mission for one year haha. He would be a stud of a missionary.
I have been so grateful to work with him and the others we have taught here.
Like I said earlier. I love them. I pray more than anything that they will
accept the Gospel. They are in great hands here with Elder Perez and his new
companion. I am excited to go and meet more people and hopefully help them . It
was cool yesterday as we were teaching I could really feel the spirit guide our
lessons and I felt power as we testified. I love that feeling so much and I
know that the lord is blessing me with his spirit I am thankful.
Oh and
Happy Thanksgiving!! I hope that is great. I am not really sure what I will be
doing for thanksgiving because I am going somewhere else but it will be good. I
was thinking that you better watch Elf so I am glad you already have that
covered. We do get to play a turkey bowl on thanksgiving. Either in Princeton
or Newark.. depending on where I am transferred so that is going to be pretty
sweet and then it is Christmas time :)
Well that
is all for this week.. I have lots of pictures so I will get sending those. OF
the great people here in Somerset/New Brunswick
The Gospel
is real and changes lives. Live it! :) I love you all.
And now, behold, my
beloved brethren, this is the away; and there is bnone other way nor cname given under heaven
whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the ddoctrine of Christ, and the
only and true doctrine of theeFather, and of the Son, and of
the Holy Ghost, which is fone God, without end. Amen.

Letter 50:: 11/18/2013
Well hello
their everyone, haha it sounds like all is going well, The Kitchen looks
amazing by the way, love it. Sounds like you and Bonnie had a lot of fun doing
that. It is cool. We actually had a less active that was just doing that in
their house and it looks a lot a like! cool :) Oh man that is a bummer to hear
about Dad's ring.. I will most definitely pray.
Oh my
goodness, Yes, I am incredibly excited for Thanksgiving and then Christmas
time!! I love it and so many great things are happening as well out here. What
are you all doing for Thanksgiving. Oh but this is the last week of the
transfer so I could get transferred next week and be in a new area for
thanksgiving, Kind of like last year.
So are area
keeps improving it has and continues to be a little bit of a struggle. I have
learned a lot though about what works in finding and what doesnt work. So I
feel like I am getting better as a missionary. I just want to keep on working.
This month we are focusing on The Gospel _ Faith in Jesus Christ, Repentance,
Baptism, The Holy Ghost and Enduring to the end and making that the center of
all that we do, we are
also
focusing on making our prayers more meaningful. Our Monthly Scripture is
“Behold, my
beloved brethren, remember the words of your God; pray unto him
continually
by day, and give thanks unto his holy name by night. Let your hearts
rejoice.” 2
Ne 9: 52
I noticed
as we focus on having meaningful prayers how much happier and peaceful I feel
afterwards. I love it!
We also
read a talk called "Purification". In the talk he is talks to makes
and basically sets forth a program so we can be more purified and yield our
hearts to God. We start with a Fast and in the attitude of Fasting we search
for anything that "pokes" at our spirit or basically anything that
distracts us from the work. Then we write it down, once we have our list of
things we make a covenant with God to do a "spiritual fast" of those
things for 40 days. We are then promised that we will be changed and purified
and directed by the spirit of the Lord more fully in the work. So I started
this, and have been doing it for about 10 days. I honestly can already feel a
difference and I feel much closer to the lord by just making a few simple
changes. I feel more now than I ever have that I am fulfilling my purpose as a
missionary. And I am happier and more positive too :) ( Negativsm is one of the
things on my list...) I think this is one of my favorite scriptures now..
Nevertheless they did afast and bpray oft,
and did wax stronger and stronger in their chumility,
and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with
joy and consolation, yea, even to the dpurifying and
the esanctification of their hearts,
which sanctification cometh because of their fyielding their
hearts unto God.
Helaman 3:35
:)
Yes I feel
like it has made a big difference in my mission.. They gave us the talk and
said that we could chose whether or not we would like to do it. I felt a very
strong impression to do it. It was a very cool experience
And yes
things are growing, we found three new investigators this week. One of them is
the daughter of a couple that we used to teach, We taught them but they didnt
progress a whole lot. Well right before that Fiesta that we had last week we
got in contact with them and they showed up to the Fiesta with their whole
family. Now there son who is 9 is asking them when they can go back and when we
passed by the daughter was super excited to see us and listened in on the
lesson. We are going back Wednesday with a sweet lesson with their family..
Also
through looking through our area book we were able to Miraculousy find a less
Active who is only 14 years old and wasnt baptized to long ago. We thought she
had moved and she did but still lives in our area. And last but not least
Vladimir took us out to eat to get some Dominican Food it was great but that
wasnt even the best part. We taught him some commandments and he already keeps
them. Like the word of wisdom not a problem. He even came to Church yesterday
in a white shirt and tie. haha he is awesome and super funny. He still is
unsure about baptism, he knows he needs to get baptized but says he just hasnt
made a decision. He most likely has some doubt that we just got to find and
then we can help him. Pray that we can find it!
So yes like
I said, I am living the good life out here, The Gospel is so real and true. and
being a missionary is amazing!
Love You
All!, Elder Tanner Boyer
ps we had
interviews with President this week too. so good to feel his spirit.
Letter 49:: 11/4/2013
Well I have
to start off with the pictures.. I loved them especially the skeleton one!!! I
was actually just thinking like last night when someone was going going to get
pregnant and you both are! (unless that is some kind of joke and if it is it
wasnt very nice) I like Adams pizza too. Ah but that is soo cool. Congrats! It
made me soo happy to see that picture. They wont even be very old when I get
back so cool!
Yes And I
loved all of the pictures you sent. All your costumes are too good. Also I
loved the pictures you sent in the package to of you all in OKC. Oh and I dint
even recognize Jack. It was great to see all your faces.Thank you for the
package mom! I got it on Halloween so it was perfect and Elder Perez and I
enjoyed all the candy :).
The work
out here was great this week. The Andino family came to church again and we had
a great lesson with them yesterday, The son Ronny is probably one of the
funniest kids ever. and he texted us last night to tell us he prayed. Vladimir
is also doing even better. On saturday we were really able to have a good
lesson. He told us that he knows he needs to be baptized and he knows that it
is something that when he is baptized he will need to Endure to the End. We are
trying to help him make that step. He accepted to work towards being baptized
Nov. 23 :) He we will be ready too because he is great. Yesterday, we went to
church with him in his car ( he lives down the street from us) He was awesome
at church. We had a really funny lesson on the Law of Chastity and he loved it
so that was good and in priesthood, it was a simple lesson on the priesthood.
He even taught what the priesthood was to someone else he taught it better than
I can. He will be a solid missionary. It was pretty too on the way home
we were talking about food (turns out Hispanics do not like Pb an j, at least
the ones I have met) All of the sudden he turns into mcdonalds and gets in the
drive through.. we didnt know what to say. So we told him a little bit about
fasting and Sabbath.. he said "oh, I didnt know that". And he drove
away. He is the best.
I would ask
just to keep praying for him especially and that we can find more people who
are prepared. We are kinde of low on finding and we do not have a ton of
investigators.
Thank you
for the spiritual thought. It helps. Especially because sometimes it is easy to
feel that way, that I havent really done very much.sometimes I have dreams that
I am home and it scares me because I dont know if I have done very much good
and I want to do more. But it is comforting to know that no effort is wasted.
Like with Vladimir, we said he would come to church the first two weeks and he
didnnt and it was frustrating but then this week he promised us he would be at
church before we even asked him. That is small example.
I know that
is true that God shapes us through our trials and that if we trust in him we
will be fit to enter his kingdom. It is amazing and I have felt that shaping
and molding so much out here. God lives and loves us. I love you. Have a great
week!
Love Elder
Tanner Boyer
Ps. I
prefer v neck and I think a large. also I may need some more white longsleev shirts.
Letter 48:: 10/28/2013
Hey
everybody, thank you for you email, I loved it. I am kind of feeling lazy right
now so I dont know how good this email will be for yall so sorry in advance :)
haha but those were some sweet pictures. And Adams family looked great. The
kids look so old now. I especially like Noahs two front teeth ;) That is funny
about the ghost two. I was actually thinking about that the other day because
we got an add in the mail and it had one of those guys. I loved decorating the
house. This year on wednesday and on Halloween we have to be in our apartments
by 6. I guess it gets a little intense outside so we stay in. It is okay our
plan is to carve... "what do a think?? A pumpkin" and then give candy
with pass along cards taped to it :) so it should be a good time
So for this
past week out in New Jersey It was just great. We met some more with that
family from Mexico that I told you about last week. They are just awesome. They
got some work to do though. They work on sunday and have not been able to come
to church yet. Are other investigator Vladimir. Is super awesome as well and
last night when we met with him he again accepted to be baptized. He knows it
is what he needs to do but he wants to make sure he does so with real intent
and not just for the experience so he has not committed to a date. He will get
there tho. He too needs to come to church to have to know it is true. Well also
we had a less active family come to church and it was such a blessing. We
werent sure what to do so we called The Elder who baptized them.. It just so
happened that he was visiting New Jersey this weekend and that family was on the
top of his list. So we all went together. Because of this great blessing they
all recommitted to come to church. And they came. Even the dad came who is very
less active and wasnt there when we commited them to come to church. It was soo
great to see them there. They actually gave us a ride to church and we were so
happy riding in the car with them. Knowing that this family again was coming to
church together.
So that
consisted of our last week we are working with some more less actives and
recent converts to make sure those that are members are converted :) The work
is true and real. Talk to you all next week. Love you
Elder
Tanner Boyer
Ps. oh and
for christmas.. um I dont now. Maybe like a sweater a red or blue one would be
nice. It is starting to get really cold.. well my camera kind of broke a while
ago but I got a new one from walmart that was pretty cheap and does the job so
no worries there.. If I think of anything else I will send a quick email today
okay.
Letter 47:: 10/14/2013
Well hi, It
has been a good week. Nothing too special but a solid week for missionary work.
It sounds
like all is well back in the USA.... haha sometimes I feel like I am in another
country plus we here all these crazy things like the government is shut down
and a hurricane is coming... so yes it is pretty exciting. All I know is that
this is the work of the lord and that it is hastening. I think every week more
and more people are accepting to be baptized here in New Jersey and it is so
exciting.
But good to
hear from you all and the good things happening back at home. Oh that is soo
cool that the sister missionaries are in our ward. Do they only serve in our
area because that would be such a blessing. Help them with whatever you can and
dont be afraid to do missionary work. Nothing will make you happier :) I
promise.
Haha that
is crazy that Grandma was in Newark, that is 22 miles away from me. (I know
because I walk by the sign everyday :) )
Oh and the
beautiful news that I will tell you in case you dont know spanish is that I am
staying here in Somerset for at least one more transfer and with Elder Perez
too :) I am so happy. I have really grown to love the people here, and now the
work is just starting to pick up here, we are excited to help it explode. Pray
that it will.
Ok so
marissa is coming. That is awesome. Though I do have a little fear that I would
see her because we are close to our house a lot and our area really isnt big. I
love you Marissa but I dont really want to see you ;) haha but what would
be awesome is if you dropped it off at the mission office. I think that is
closer anyways to Maplewood and I would get it the next week because we have
Zone Conference on the 20th. SO that would be perfect.
Oh and the
cds were Nashville Tribute "The Work" and the Lower Lights but I am
not sure if they have that one at Deseret Book.. or talks by Hank Smith
too would be sweet. Anything is great.
Mom you are
the best good Job on reading the Book of Mormon. Our challenge was to read by
the end of this transfer and I am on 3 nefi right now..so. Hopefully I can
finish it soon. I am a slow reader..But I love that book!!!
Well like I
said the work is going well. I also have a greater motivation to do better on
learning spanish. It is easy sometimes out here to get in the habit of speaking
English..
We were
able to teach Keiry' s dad again and he is great, we are excited to continue
working with her family and help them get stronger and stronger. I realized
even more this week how important famles are in Gods plan. There is an obvious
reason we have them and it is so that we can help each other. You all have done
that for me and I am so thankful I love you!
Yes, we
have been focussing on faith. One thing we do as part of our zone goal is
called Sacred Grove time. After planning we go to a private room or closet and
pray out loud. It has been amazing the peace that I have felt and how my faith
has increased as I specifically pray for it. And we take 15 minutes to study
about Jesus Christ each day. My faith in him and the Atonement has already
increased. I know he lives and that he is our Savior. I know Heavenly Father
lives and loves us and hears us.
I hope you
have a Great week!
Love Elder Boyer
Letter 46:: PS
Oh and it would be better if my brothers wrote a letter just because I
have to spend money to print it off and I always forget money. Probably
the mission office is best just in case I am transferred.
5 cold
hill rd.. I dont remeber the rest. I can try to figure it out. Oh and
mom I sent some money home that I was paying myself back. Because I used
some for groceries when we ran ouut of misison money. But if you could
put it in the bank. thank you :) the first one is a painting in the
Liahona maybe Ensign too of New Brunswick New Jersey, possible our area
too.
Letter 46:: 10/7/2013
Well hi there back home. That really was such a great conference weekend
:) I dont even know wheretoo start. I think I just want to start with
bragging a little bit about how I am in the best mission. ;) So here are
some cool stats they told us in Zone Meeting last week.New Jersey Is
50th in the United States for the amount per capital of members of the
church. So pretty much we have the least amount of members here. and we
are the 4th most baptizing mission in the US. there is a lot of work to
do here and our mission is working hard on getting that done :)
But I cant even tell you how much I loved conference. This year the
scripture kept coming to mind " Whether by my voice or by the voice of
my servants, it is the same" I felt that. I felt that we were truly
listening to the words of the Savior. So many talks strengthened my
testimony. I was grateful for Elder Hollands talk as well. Elder Wood
and I looked at each other, wondering if this was really happening. It
was so cool.
And then I dont know if you all heard but we got a shout out in
conference. Two actually. Pres. Eyring talked about New Jersey where he
grew up and Elder Christopherson told that awesome story about the lady
that grew up in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and went to Rutgers
University. (Both are in our area :) ) Plus we were watching conference
in the church building Elder Christopherson grew up in. You should have
seen us all when he started talking about it. we were all jumping for
joy. I didnt even realize but I was doing a straight up fist bump. The
other people there probably thought the missionaries were crazy... but
it was exciting. I loved that talk.
Also yesterday Keiry was able to receive the Holy Ghost, we were
able to get in to contact with her and she is doing much better. Bishop
did not want to wait any longer so we confirmed her befrore the last
session. We are grateful that she now has the Holy Ghost as a guide and
we know that will help her.
Right after conference we went over to the Bishops house for some
good food. Our Bishop is awesome! he is young about the same age as Adam
and he is a return missionary. After our lesson he drove us home and we
began to get to know him better and we asked for advice for our
investigators and now recent converts. Specifically Keiry and how to
keep her strong and also how to help her family. Her mom is a less
active member. So he asked if we could go see them right then. So we
went and we were able to have a simple and powerful lesson with there
family prayer and to open up the doors a little more. It was such a
blessing to us. Bishop did most of the teaching and it was awesome. We
just testified and that was it, and now we can move forward off of that
foundation, we learned a lot from him on how to be more effective and
powerful missionary. This ward is one of the best missionary wards and
it is because Obispo Sevilla is focussed on it' Our saying now when we
teach is " be like bishop" :)
We also just found the most solid investigator named Roberto. I
guess we gave him a pass along card about a month ago in the street and
he called the number, some sisters in Salt lake have been teaching him
over the phone and now we are, he came to conference and really enjoyed
it. Just more evidence that people are prepared but we dont know unless
we ask.
Well I better get going but I love you, dont forget to watch more
and more conference and keep being uplifted . It is soo good. Well next
week is transfers too so I will now if I am being transferred next
monday. I love it her soooo much
Okay well talk to you later : )
Love Elder Boyah
